Mohan Eye Institute was established by Dr. Hari Mohan M.B.B.S, DO (Lond), FRSC (Edin.) in 1980. His legacy has been taken forward by his sons Dr Rajiv Mohan and Dr Sanjiv Mohan. Mohan Eye Institute is one of Delhi NCR’s best eye hospitals. It is a state of the art ophthalmic hospital and teaching institute, that is committed to providing world class services in eye care with utmost integrity, personal attention and compassion. Our services include high-tech diagnostic, rehabilitation and therapy in almost every subspecialty of ophthalmology. Our charitable wing, in the name of late Dr S.N. Mitter, provides ophthalmic services to the economically weaker sections of the society.

Legacy of Dr. Hari Mohan

Dr. Hari Mohan completed his MBBS with Hons. in Ophthalmology from the King George’s Medical College at University of Lucknow in 1952 and granted Diploma in Ophthalmology (D.O.) in 1954 by the Royal College of Physicians of London and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He completed his fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Edinburgh in 1956.

Dr Hari Mohan returned to India in 1956 and joined Irwin and Holy Family Hospitals, New Delhi as Hony Ophthalmic Surgeon and started his private practice. He was associated with Maulana Azad Medical College as Honorary Professor till 1968. In 1968 he was appointed as the Hony. Ophthalmic Surgeon to the President of India.

In recognition of his service to the nation, he was decorated by the Hon’ President of India Shri V. V. Giri, with the coveted National Award, Padma Shri, in 1971. He was elected as an International Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 1988. He was awarded the FRCOphth. in 1989 by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, UK. In 1995/96 he was presented with the BC Roy National Award by the President of India. In 2000, he was presented as an Honorary Registrar by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow). In 2002 he was awarded FRCS (Glasg) by the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians, Glasgow (Scotland). In recognition of his service to the nation, he was decorated by the Hon’ President of India Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam with the coveted National Award, Padma Bhushan, in 2005. In 2008, he was conferred upon the degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences Lucknow. In recognition of his work, he was presented with the Life Time Achievement Award by the All India Ophthalmological Society in 2003 and by the Delhi Ophthalmological Society (DOS) in 2011.

Dr. Rajiv Mohan

Dr. Rajiv Mohan completed his M.B.B.S in 1984 from University College of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and Masters of Surgery in Ophthalmology (JNMC, Belgaum Karnatak University) in 1988. He then worked as a Senior Registrar at Mohan Eye Institute for a year before heading to England to undertake three years of advanced training at East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, U.K. Having trained in Phacoemulsification (stitchless cataract surgery), he has a special interest in vitreo-retinal surgery. He returned to India in 1992 and joined Mohan Eye Institute as a Senior Consultant. He was also appointed as Hony Senior Consultant at Jaipur Golden Hospital until 1999 and Sant Parmanand Hospital till 2002. He is also an examiner for FRCS (Glasgow) and has been awarded FRCS (Glasgow) in 2003 by the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians, Glasgow (Scotland). With a vision to improve and extend ophthalmic healthcare services, he completed his MBA in Healthcare Administration in 2014 from Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (FMS DU).

Dr. Rajiv is the President of NSPB (National Society for the Prevention of Blindness, India) and over the past three decades he has conducted over 300 eye camps in and around Delhi, Yamuna Nagar and Jhajjar in Haryana, Rudraprayag Uttarakhand, and Kullu-Manali Himachal Pradesh. The camps include screening for eye diseases, surgeries and distribution of eye-medicines free of cost.

Dr. Rajiv Mohan was awarded with the Gold Medal in 2006 by the Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society of India. He is named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International and a Melvin Jones Fellow by the Lions Clubs International Foundation for his humanitarian services. He has been awarded for his charitable work by the Jain community in 2009.

Dr. Sanjiv Mohan

Dr. Sanjiv Mohan did his M.B.B.S. from Sawai Man Singh Medical College, Jaipur in 1993 and Masters in Surgery from JNMC, Belgaum in 1996. He then worked as a Senior Registrar at Mohan Eye Institute for two years before proceeding to Scotland, UK for advanced training in all aspects of Ophthalmology with a special interest in Phacoemulsification at Inverclyde Royal Hospital, Greenock Scotland. On returning to India in 2000, he joined Mohan Eye Institute and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital as a consultant Ophthalmologist till 2006. He has also been serving as   an examiner for FRCS (Glasgow) since 2005 till date and has been awarded FRCS (Glasgow) Honorary Fellowship Award in 2010 by the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians, Glasgow (Scotland). Dr. Sanjiv has also been a DNB board Inspector from – to – and has been a part of the DNB teaching programme since 2001 guiding a number of students in their thesis, who have also passed out from Mohan Eye Institute.

Dr. Sanjiv Mohan has conducted successful surgical camps in Ranikhet from 2001-2006 which include. He has also been organising  several screening camps on behalf of the Rotary club of Delhi since 2015.
